Pollença’s Patron Saint

In Pollença, tradition and history come together in a fascinating way when the locals honour their patron saint, “La Mare de Déu dels Àngels”. The festival takes place every year on the 2nd of August and is definitely worth a visit. The festivities last a whole week and reach their highlight with the spectacular reconstruction of the famous battle of Pollença.

Battle of Pollença

The battle took place on May 30, 1550 during the so-called “Turkish War”. The locals of Pollença and their allies defended the town against the advancing Turkish troops. This historic battle has left a lasting impression on the community and is reconstructed every year with great dedication.

The people are passionately committed to re-creating the atmosphere with traditional costumes, weapons and historical requisites. Also the streets and squares are decorated.

The fighters slip into authentic costumes and uniforms and present the spectators with a fascinating show. It is a spectacle in itself. Incidentally, the battle is  right in the old town.
